Under the Radar - Kirkgate Centre

Kirkgate CentreFriends of the Kirkgate offer a chance to hear three, local, musical gems in one night, for only £10! Under the Radar is on the 11th of July at 8pm (doors open 7.30) at The Kirkgate Centre, Cockermouth.

Sid Wright is a familiar name on the Cumbrian music scene. He has been taking a break from live performance, to concentrate on other creative projects, but returns for Friends of the Kirkgate. Sid’s prolific songwriting has led to much music industry interest, but he refuses to relinquish artistic control. His live performances are never disappointing…

Great songs, beautifully played and sung. A highly individual style and approach, with a real warmth and integrity – a voice that you can curl up and sleep in, and intelligently written songs that reach far beyond the obvious to make a strong connection with the listener.” - Dave Camlin

The Gardenelles are also coming out of hibernation to show support for this local arts venue. Having shied away from the stage since their last tour (supporting Circulus and Beneath The Oak) the folk duo are dusting off songs from their EP ‘Turning the Leaves’.

"Magical and mercurial indeed. ... With just a guitar and vocal alone the haunting ‘john paul jones’ frankly needs hearing to be believed, an absolute heartbreaking gem that sounds like its just awoken from some decades lasting enchantment, lushly bathed in that same bewitching mystique as decorated the soundtrack to the ‘wicker man’, carefree and untamed informed by nature itself its sumptuously braided by the hollowed murmur of delta blues accents a la John Fahey and crystallised in a softly melting timeless tapestry."  - Mark, Losing Today online music review

Sycamore Sykes is the headliner for the night. His band perform a mix of original songs as well as country, folk, blues, old-timey Americana and Cajun. With two albums under his belt and airplay on BBC6 music, now is the perfect time to catch him live! Destined for great things Sycamore Sykes has a powerful emotive voice and lyrical talent way beyond his years. His self produced album was quoted as being one of the best releases of the year by Cerys Matthews.

The Kirkgate Centre is at Kirkgate, Cockermouth CA13 9PJ box office 01900 826448. All proceeds from the night go to the Kirkgate Centre re-development fund.
