Dobcross Folk Club Reopens.....After 42 years!

DobcrossA casual chat between the landlord of the Swan Inn at Dobcross and one of his customers had an interesting result.  Paul Reade mentioned that he ran a folk club at the pub from 1967 to 1971, booking names such as Martin Carthy and Mike Harding.

The club it seems, was still fondly remembered, and Reade was asked to make a comeback.  As a result Dobcross Folk Club aka Folk at the Top House will reopen its doors on Sunday 2nd June and continue on the first Sunday of each month.

Guests booked so far:-

2 June: The Hometowners and Tony Downes – Saddleworth Favourites

7 July: Strid - a woman, a man and a Lowden F12 guitar perform unique versions of songs by Richard Thompson, Paul Simon, Lennon and McCartney, Tom Waits and many others.

4 Aug: Brillig - a capella and accompanied harmony group from Lancashire (and Warwickshire) who enjoy any excuse for singing!

Floor singers will be welcome on guest nights and the plan is to have a separate singers’ night if there’s enough demand.

The Swan Inn is at The Square, Dobcross, Saddleworth, OL3 5AA.  Directions on the web site.
