Sarah McQuaid in the North West

sarah mcquaidIn conjunction with the recent release of her album The Plum Tree and The Rose, Sarah McQuaid is currently midway through an eight-week USA tour. That will be followed immediately by a 23-show UK tour in November.

Released earlier this year on the Chicago-based Waterbug Records label, The Plum Tree and The Rose has drawn critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic:

Produced by Gerry O’Beirne (Midnight Well, Patrick Street, Sharon Shannon Band) and engineered by Trevor Hutchinson (Waterboys, Lúnasa), The Plum Tree and The Rose represents a departure from Sarah’s previous albums in that nine of its thirteen tracks are originals.

Born in Madrid and raised in Chicago, Sarah lived in Ireland for 14 years before moving to Cornwall in 2007. She currently spends six months of the year on the road and is in high demand on the international folk circuit.

Singers take note – Sarah is seeking fellow vocalists to join her in singing In Gratitude I Sing, the six-part round that closes the album.

“I’ve had people come up on stage to sing ‘In Gratitude’ with me at concerts on both sides of the Atlantic,” Sarah explains, “and it’s always been a thrill, whether it’s a whole choir joining me or just one or two people. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t, but when it does, it’s amazing. And either way I always try and get the whole audience to join in on a couple of songs – it just makes the whole evening more fun for everyone!”

In Gratitude I Sing is available as a free download from Sarah’s website, as is the sheet music for the song.
